About Mary Galloway, ND

I grew up in a family of contradictions. My mother read Adelle Davis nutrition books, but she would sprinkle colored sugar on the apple slices to bribe us to eat them. My father was a butcher who thought a complete meal was a ham sandwich, a hard-boiled egg and cottage cheese. Don’t get me wrong – they were awesome parents; they were doing the best they knew how. Good nutrition and health were simply not common knowledge.

As a young adult, I had the worst diet. A typical breakfast was a diet cola and a candy bar. Yikes! As a result, I suffered from an inflamed gall bladder. My doctor told me that I had to have surgery – he did not know of any other way to treat the problem. After the surgery, I was in the hospital for four days on heavy-duty pain medication and antibiotics. It took months to recuperate and I still did not know how to eat right. There had to be a better way.

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for herbs. After studying bitters, demulcents and tonics, I understood herbs, but I didn’t understand how the body worked. Then I discovered Naturopathic Medicine. This was my calling!

I studied five years at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, learning how the body works and how nutrition, herbs, and other natural treatments can help the GI tract as well as other body systems enjoy overall health.

Several years later, I underwent knee surgery to repair complications from a childhood accident. This time I made sure I had optimal nutrition and hydration before the surgery. Not only did the surgery go well, I walked out of the hospital that day – no crutches and very little pain or swelling.

Now I want to share my joy of health with you. If you are preparing for surgery or want to finally feel great, let’s take the journey together!
